Nell Truehart, and her grandmother arrive in Snagg to look for her father, who has a mine there. They haven’t heard from him for some time and they are worried that something has happened to him.
A wicked man named Pepe LeDieu and his sidekick, a Kickapoo Indian, plot to abduct Nell and find her father’s goldmine. A Canadian Mounty, Dooley Dudright, vows to keep them safe and find her father.
Grandma Truehart has resources of her own to foil any wicked trespassers who've threatened them. The terrible sound of a monster keeps them all terrified and wondering if that is the cause of Nell’s father's disappearance.
